Saturday 9th September 2017

Off to Strandfontein Sewer Works for some bird watching. Not a lot to see this time but the vista was lovely –

.

Flamingos were nice as well with all the juveniles at the front –

.

Then we went on to the beautiful gardens of –

.

The very beautiful Strelitzia is in full bloom at this time of year – The bird of paradise flower –

.

The gardens are renowned for their Spring flowering Proteas – the national flower of South Africa –

.

These come in many shapes and colours –

.

They make very good feeding stations for the orange breasted sunbird –

.

And the Cape sugar bird –

.

Here’s a little cape robinchat –

.

Another lovely flower –

.

And to finish the day a view of the sunset from our lounge –

.

Our usual backdrop of lovely mountains and blue sky –

A great warm day out.

Wednesday 6th September 2017.

Off to Paternoster on the coast. Cold and wet but different.

.

It’s an area renowned for its sea food and we found the mussel grave yard –

.

Right on the rocks. Amazing.

.
Interesting sculpture outside a cafe –

.

Then we went to the Noisy Oyster for lunch. Different –

Interesting canopy –

.

This is our version of the mussel graveyard. It was lovely –

Last post for today from the cafe –

Tuesday 5th September 2017

Wow. The weather changes. Played 4 holes of golf and then we were soaked through. Back to the club house to dry out.

This looks like the rain we had –

Met these Bonteboks on the course –

.

And this little guy in the distance. Not sure what he is –

.

Weaver bird’s nests –

.

That’s about it for today except for this black shouldered kite –

.

Oh no. More rain tomorrow.

Monday 4th September 2017

Off to the Postberg region of the West Coast National Park to see the flowers –

.

They are about as difficult to photograph as trying to take an interesting photograph on a golf course but I have tried –

.

The colours are so vibrant and considering this has been a year of poor rainfall –

.

We were so lucky that the lady on reception said go and see them when the weather is good as it was soon to change.

.

Then we found this little chap – so tiny. Gordon thinks he is 2 years old-

.

.
Good day out.

Sunday 3rd September 2017.

Drove up to Langebaan after breakfast. The countryside is much greener that we are used to in the summer and the roadsides are lined with flowers.

We have an appartment on the golf estate –

.

Very nice setting –

.

And a very handsome Cape Weaver bird with his wife –

.

.

South Africa. Saturday 2nd September 2017.

Glasgow airport. Up at 3.30am for flight to Kaapstad (Cape Town) via Amsterdam. KLM on the new Dreamliner. Only its second flight having come from America. How new is that!!!!!

The safety information was a series of pictures using the Delft pottery –

Food wasn’t too bad either –

.

Just love the little salt and pepper clogs!!!

Arrived at our B&B late only to find the man who managed it was from Zimbabwe and was a Manchester City supporter. A great end to a really good day !!!
